The MR chair was designed by modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1927 as part of his contribution to the Weissenhof exhibit in Stuttgart, Germany & was awarded the Museum of Modern Art Award in 1977 & the Design Center Stuttgart Award in 1978. This iconic Bauhaus cantilever chair feature clean lines, a simple profile & a lack of ornamentation that epitomizes the International Style. The chair’s cantilevered design used chrome-plated tubular steel - an innovative technology at the time - paired with handwoven natural cane for the perfect balance of contrasting materials & an intuitively accessible & ergonomic seat.
