Any way you look at them, these two very fun, very unique & very vintage beauties are cooler than cool & cuter than cute! These two Teak Hippo Trinket Holders, designed by J.V. Orel & manufactured by Zoo-Line in 1959, featuring a pair of smiling male & female Hippos, are in very good condition, with no noticeable nicks, dings or scratches. The only slight imperfection I can find with either of these pieces is that the Female Hippo’s ears seem to be a bit craggy, like they were not thoroughly sanded. Other than this barely noticeable “imperfection”, these pieces are in fabulous shape for 60+ year old mammals! “Mrs.” Hippo has adorable (and very voluptuous) red felt lips, long eyelashes & little silver stud earrings. “Mr.” Hippo prefers to go natural, & has no adornments - but he’s still just as handsome as can be! Both of these pieces retain their original (and quite impressively cute) curled tails - a rarity in pieces of this age! Both Hippos measure 8"’ across, 3" wide & 3-1/2" tall. Both have brass hinged large mouths that open to reveal two large Hippo teeth & a 2" x 2-1/2" oval area perfect for holding rings, earrings, pins, tie clips & cufflinks. Both are marked “COPYRIGHT 1959 ZOO-LINE” on the underside. What fun, unique & thoughtful gifts this charming pair would make!
