This is an antique (exact age unknown), primitive, hand-painted, folk-art, stone-ware jug. It is a large, as-found, unsigned, unmarked crock that was turned into a table lamp at some point, but is now inoperable with cutoff wiring. This could be restored with the placement of new electrical wiring & hardware to keep it as a table-lamp or you could remove the lamp hardware & just use as a fabulous, one-of-a-kind piece of decorative folk-art. The lighting hardware is placed inside the neck of the jug via a cork so as to not ruin the integrity of the crock. The measurements of the jug alone are 6.5 inches in diameter by 11 inches tall to the top of the jug neck. If you add the harp & finial for an overall measurement the height is 20.5 inches. This is a very, thick & heavy, khaki-colored, stoneware crock weighing almost 6.5 pounds. The crock has a large, finger-hold handle at the top & was probably used for whisky back in the day. This beauty features a marvelous, primitive, painting of finely-dressed Victorians & horse-drawn carriage at the town square. Certainly a unique & one-of-a-kind item. The top-half of the jug has a raised, speckled finish which may have been done on purpose or maybe not? The underside-bottom of the jug has the imprint of tree-slice rings probably resulting from being placed directly on wood after the kiln firing process. There is one chip on the bottom edge of the jug which occurred prior to the painting process many, many, many years ago (last photo). There is also evidence of drip remains under the jug handle as seen in 2nd to last photo, but the paint integrity (no chipping) & all else seems to be in very, good condition. A wonderful piece of antique, stone-ware folk art. Please be sure before purchasing as this item is NOT returnable. A signature will be required upon delivery.
