People often confuse gold vermeil for gold plating, but they are not the same! Gold vermeil is fine sterling silver, dipped in 14k gold, vermeil style. The gold has a much higher percentage of gold than standard gold plating, which often covers bronze or other lesser metals, not sterling silver as in gold vermeil. Gold filled is much more valuable, does not tarnish or rub off. The artisans in Thailand who make the gold vermeil pieces I use in my jewelry work hard to craft the pieces as they require time & skill, & I think they are very special & add dimension to the jewelry.
