I have started naming all of my rag weaving after places in my state of New York. So, here is , The Raquette River. This river originates at Raquette Lake in the Adirondack Mountains in New York. 146 miles long, it is the third longest river entirely in the state. While most of the rag weaving, has a random multicolored feel to it, these are more organized. Using twine for the base, it is easier to control the colors & pattern. Its colors include greens, baby blue & turquoise with a little mixed plaid as an accent. These rag weaving twined mats are made from fabrics that are not generally suitable for my baskets. The fabrics are either too fat, too stretchy or too apt to fray. I often use vintage doubleknits. This creates a thick mat with a rough, very primitive look & irregular stitches. They are created on a handmade loom. I am selling these mats individually, rather than in sets. I am not a very “matchy-matchy” person so I wanted to give buyers the option to create their own “sets” or buy just one as a focal centerpiece. Sometimes I do make more than one with the same colors & fabrics & this will be indicated in the quantity available. Keep in mind however, that each one is individually hand made & that no two will ever be ExACTLY the same. Because these mats are made with mostly found & recycled materials, I am unable to take special orders for them. To see what other options are currently available, Just search for “mats” or “rag weaving” in my shop. Each mat measures 18 inches long by 12 inches wide. I have pre-washed & machine dried the fabric prior to weaving….so they are safe to launder. Although, I might recommend that you treat it gently..cool water…finish air drying it flat.. It will wear longer if washed by hand. These table rugs or place mats are made in the same manner as my larger rag rugs, only on a smaller loom. Strips of fabric ( mostly recycled) are hand woven on a handmade loom. The last photo shows one in progress. Raquette River Rag Weaving Table Rug Placemat
