Such a lovely vintage original watercolor piece. A pretty young woman is shown in a crinoline hoopskirt & holding a parasol, & the notation of 1858 indicates that’s the era this is supposed to be. Done by an artist named C. Burke, in watercolor & pencil on paper, it appears to date to the 1950s to 1960s. It definitely has a nostalgic nod to that period. It’s either called “Costumes,” or part of a series with that name. Unframed, but still in its original retro matting with hatchwork design, & this allows the piece to be leaned on a bookshelf or elsewhere & be displayed as is. Matted piece is about 16 1/8" tall by 12" wide. The actual painting appears to be about 10" tall by 7.5" wide. CONDITION: Some normal handling wear & minor creasing to matting, normal age toning & normal vintage soiling, some minor edge wear & corner wear, etc. The actual painting is in nice vintage condition. Just some mild-ish age toning to paper. The matting seems a little handled, though not much. DARK AGE TONING ON MATTING, especially around edges. Bottom edge of matting was TRImmED CROOKEDLY. Light wear on back side of piece. Any props not included. Colors can vary across devices, so the colors & brightness should be considered an approximation.
