This rare hand colored photograph is from the master himself, Wallace Nutting. Nutting’s photographs ranged in subject & price to suit a variety of tastes. His catalog included pastoral scenes such as views of abbeys, cathedrals, bridges, mountains, flowers, & winding roads. Nutting authored several books about the scenic beauties of New England, the United Kingdom, & Ireland. in the peak of his business he employed about two-hundred colorists. By his own account, Wallace Nutting sold ten million pictures. Wallace Nutting’s colorists painted the photographs which he took. These colorists would sometimes sign Wallace Nutting’s name on the photos which is why the signatures vary. We were told by the dealer from whom we purchased this that this is an authentic Wallace Nutting signature & it is consistent with his signatures (although even the authenticated ones vary a bit). We’ve kept it in its original frame & did some minor repair work to the frame, it could use a full restoration.
