I have started naming all of my rag weaving after places in my state of New York. So, here is the famous Niagara Falls. Although all of the mats have a multicolored look, this one has a concentration on blues, a collection of varying shades of blues…from gray to navy. These rag weaving mats are made from fabrics that are not generally suitable for my baskets. The fabrics are either too fat, too stretchy or too apt to fray. This creates a thick mat with a rough & very primitive look. I am selling these mats individually, rather than in sets. I am not a very “matchy-matchy” person so I wanted to give buyers the option to create their own “sets” or buy just one as a focal centerpiece. Sometimes I do make more than one with the same colors & fabrics & this will be indicated in the quantity available. Keep in mind however, that each one is individually hand made & that no two will ever be ExACTLY the same. I made a few of these blue ones so each one may vary slightly from the photographs. To see what other options are currently available, Just search for “mats” in my shop. Each mat measures 18 inches long by 12 inches wide. I have pre-washed & machine dried the fabric prior to weaving….so they are safe to launder. Although, I might recommend that you treat it gently..cool water…finish air drying it flat.. It will wear longer if washed by hand. These table rugs or placemats are made in the same manner as my larger rag rugs, only on a smaller loom. The last two photos show one in progress & how they are typically displayed. Strips of fabric (both new but mostly recycled) are hand woven on a handmade loom.
