Extremely unique lounger circa 1940s. Built of nearly all hardwood, with bentwood arms & supports, gold/mustard strapping, & an amazing set of wheels. Possibly a sanatorium lounger, or “cure chair”. This lounger was clearly created to look beautiful, but also designed & constructed with the purpose in aiding treatment & mobility. The exact intended use of this item is unclear, although to me it screams 1940s fancy mountain treatment facility lounger. The gold/mustard colored strapping is tight & in great condition. The design is elaborate, with many adjustable parts including the bentwood arm/side rails, back & foot rests which fold, & hold, different heights. The top, or “head end” has extendable handles like a dolly, or hand cart. The wheels are omni-directional, wood, with grooved rubber tires that spin nice on bearings. Each wheel also has wooden locking mechanisms for brakes. The entire piece folds for storage, or shipping. This piece is from the estate of one of the largest curated collections of antique medical items in Ohio. Date: 1940s Condition: Some fading, & a few water stains to the straps. Dings & scrapes to the wood in several places. Repair to one of the back hinge brackets (pic 8). Additional condition photos available upon request.
