Mid-Century Modern Side Table, Kidney Bean Shaped, Mini Side Table Version, handmade out of Walnut. There are many versions of the kidney bean table out there, & after looking for inspiration in tables of the past, this is my mini interpretation. I wanted the curve of the table to be continuous, while keeping the proportions pleasing to the eye. I wanted it to be sleek & modern looking, while staying true to the original design. I also wanted to use materials that perfectly fit the period, to complement people’s existing mid-century collections. Finally, its shape & size makes its use flexible - you can use the table on either side of your chair. It also kind of wraps around your chair, allowing you to keep your drink close. Here are the details, & I am trying to think of everything as I ask a lot of questions when researching: Constructed of high grade walnut plywood. Not birch plywood that is dyed to look like walnut, this is high quality walnut veneer plywood. No dyes, just the natural wood. There is no paint to chip off or scratch, or a super glossy surface that ages quickly. Just natural wood that is finished with oil & wax by hand. No attempt has been made to hide the plywood edging, no dyes or edge-bands. Charles & Ray Eames used plywood in their classic designs & made it part of the design, so can everyone else. Dimensions are as follows: 22 1/4" long at longest points 14" wide at widest point 8 3/4" wide at “scoop” point 7 1/4"" wide at “skinny” point 18" high The edge of the table is angled strongly away from the top, making it look light & modern. Walnut hardwood legs (3) turned by hand, tapered sleekly from top to bottom. Mounting hardware - angled to give it that mid-century look. Finished by hand with 5 coats oil & wax. I really & truly hand apply the finish one coat at a time, & I think the results are worth the extra effort. It is best described as a very matte sheen, not too glossy, not at all dull, just enough sheen. Comes with care instructions for finish (no furniture polish, just a little water & a clean cloth). You will not get this exact table, I will make one for you from scratch & it will take 3-4 weeks for me to make it for you (4 weeks at most, it could be 1 week if I just finished a batch of them, send me a note & I will give an updated timing forecast). It will be stamped, signed, & numbered on the bottom as well. The table pictured is skinny side left, in walnut plywood. Mid-Century Modern Side Table - Walnut Kidney Bean Mini Version
