These are glaze color samples in Tahitian Islands blue glaze. They are available in 15 different sizes from 1x1s to 6x6s. The first photo is of a 4x4 field tile. Check the drop-down list for available sizes. I recommend ordering samples first before placing a larger order. You can see all the available designs in Tahitian Islands Blue glaze here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/CampbellTileworks?ref=seller-platform-mcnav§ion_id=35649017 You can use them in your kitchen backsplash, fireplace surround, or bathroom wall installation. Mix & match the different sizes along with my art tiles to create an endless variety of patterns. All tiles measure about 3/16" less than the stated size to allow for grout spacing. I make these with traditional methods of tile production that were used for centuries before mass-production techniques were introduced. After the original design is carved, I make a plaster mold of it. Each tile is then pressed into the mold & takes several days to slowly dry before being fired in my kiln for the first time. Most of the mass-produced tiles you find these days are quickly fired in about 1 hour. However, I use 2 separate & lengthy kiln firings instead which are necessary to create very unique & interesting glaze surfaces, The first firing, called the bisque firing, is used to harden the clay & make it ready to accept glaze. After the first firing, the glaze is applied by hand & they are fired a 2nd time to about 2200 degrees. This is a much higher temperature than most commercial tiles are fired to. Each glaze firing takes about 2 days to complete. This long & slow glaze firing is necessary to give the components of each glaze plenty of time to melt, flow, & interact with each other & results in very beautiful glaze surfaces from the deep translucent glossy glazes to the variegated mattes. The slight variations in glaze color give them their unique character & beauty. Semi-vitreous wall tiles. Please use TCNA guidelines when installing tiles.
