This is a matted & framed print I found at an antique store that was closing. It is a scene by the artist Hendrick van Balen with a graphite signature in the bottom right. It is labeled on the back as an artist’s proof (pencil signature) & is in full color. The indent from the etching plate in paper is clear & the colors are in greens & browns. The matte has a black an gold outline & all (print & matte) are aged to a warm brown. The frame is gold-painted wood & it measures 12 5/8" by 16 1/8" tall. The paper on the back is torn on the edges of the frame. “Hendrick van Balen or Hendrick van Balen I was a Flemish Baroque painter & stained glass designer. Hendrick van Balen specialised in small cabinet pictures often painted on a copper support. His favourite themes were mythological & allegorical scenes and, to a lesser extent, religious subjects. The artist played an important role in the renewal of Flemish painting in the early 17th century & was one of the teachers of Anthony van Dyck.” wiki Thanks for opening The Brown Suitcase!
