He studied at the Massachusetts College of Art & at Pratt Institute. He taught at Pratt Institute from 1919-1929. in 1915 he co-founded with Raymond Ensign the Berkshire Summer School of Art. Around 1920 he & his wife, Eva Auld Watson, started producing color linocuts. His work is in many institutional collections. He is the author of many books on drawing & color methods.
