This is an antique Japanese personal storage chest called Ko Tansu from Early Meiji period (1860’s-1880’s). It was used to store letters, documents, books & other items for daily use. Made of Paulownia (Kirinoki )wood. All are original & there are iron detailed lockplates & Kakute (square) handles.
